About Fredbird

Fredbird was created to publish the work of Jamie Buchanan and his late father Archie. Fred was Archie’s self-inflicted nickname and the Fredbird was his cartoon character, born probably at some time in the 1960s. Fred died in 2005 and his Fredbird now resides in perpetuity on a Pembrokeshire gravestone in southwest Wales. Over many years Fredbird made appearances in letters and on envelopes, in greetings cards and, incongruously, on pictures hanging on walls; one of his favourite haunts was a winter scene by Pieter Breughel the Elder, but he was also regularly spotted on prints of Scottish landscapes by William Daniell. Both Fredbird and his creator are remembered very fondly by a great many people, so we are delighted to give them both a wider audience in our name, logo and some of Fred’s own work.
